The Asian School of the Environment (ASE) invite applications for a Research Fellow for 2 years, with a possible further 1 year extension, to conduct research into the impacts of environmental change and restoration initiatives on invertebrates in South East Asia as part of the Tropical Ecology & Entomology Lab at ASE. The position is supported by a funded MOE Tier II grant ‘Unraveling the impacts of environmental change and restoration initiatives on biodiversity and species interactions in Southeast Asian ecosystems’. The Research Fellow will be responsible for (i) organizing and conducting research on invertebrate biodiversity and ecosystem functioning in forests and urban areas in Singapore and Malaysia, (ii) curating existing datasets and developing models to predict species responses to environmental change, and (iii) seeing this work through to publication in major research journals. They will work with a Project Officer, Research Assistant and PhD students on this grant.Job ResponsibilitiesDesign and implement fieldwork ,laboratory analysis, and predictive modeling on invertebrate ecology in relation to environmental changeManage large datasets, conduct analyses and interpret resultsWork effectively with project PIs and local collaboratorsMentor junior colleagues and students, as neededWriting and publication of results in peer-reviewed journalsConduct outreach and education activitiesJob RequirementsKnowledge and Experience Requirements:PhD degree in ecology or closely related field, preferably with a focus on invertebrate and ecosystem ecologyFieldwork experience in forested and/or urban ecosystems, and preferably in the tropics and with invertebratesExperience in managing biodiversity and environmental datasets and the use of statistical modelling and programming, including predictive modeling and conservation prioritization techniquesPrior experience in publishing in peer-reviewed scientific journals.Key Competency Requirements:Ability to work independently to develop research and execute fieldwork in tropical environments, in conditions that are sometimes challengingCollaborative, with demonstrable experience of working as part of a team or coordinating teams to produce high-quality and impactful researchInterest in invertebrates, ecosystem functioning, restoration, tropical forestsExcellent oral and written communication skills, and demonstrable ability to meet project, manuscript, and publication deadlinesAdaptable and flexible with a constructive and collegiate approach ability to work harmoniously with colleagues and students of all cultures and backgroundsThe successful candidate will join the growing Tropical Ecology and Entomology Lab group at ASE working under Asst.
