Job Description

JOB SCOPEMarina Bay Sands Design team has established a design team to deliver Design Excellence – a positive design mission that aims to drive ROI across all the business disciplines in our integrated gaming resort development in Singapore.In response to this global mission to inject an elevated sense of luxury across all the experiential offerings, we are looking for a Director of Interior Design who can help define spaces that are not just the talk of the industry but the talk of the region.Our design team aims to deliver truly exceptional properties that engage with our guests, rewards our partners and responds to the unique needs of our patrons. With design and construction professionals, we have the advantages of a team that benefits from local resources, skills, and expertise.Expected ContributionsFocus on the elevation of Design Excellence and luxury design through successful project delivery within the business portfolio.The Director of Interior Design will be responsible to support all MBS business units as well as their DPM colleagues. These will include gaming and non-gaming MBS operational units comprised of F&B, guest rooms, casino, and special projects. To deliver Design Excellence and CAPEX initiatives and projects for the Singapore property and other Sands Asia developments as required. The Director of Interior Design will primarily manage outside consultants including Interior Design, Lighting Design, Graphics and Signage, and other design professionals. Manage specific new project planning and due diligence/ in addition to long range planning for CAPEX initiatives, all while building new and maintaining current CAPEX tools, space planning/design initiatives, adhering to design narratives and design & construction standards.Responsible for Singapore projects which are critical for design, operational, financial and technical assessments to achieve Global SVP-Design approval for projects. This applies to various project types including conversions, renovations or new construction as well as contributions to other Sands Asia projects.Work proactively and collaboratively with both internal business units and operations as well as external partners on key objectives such as interior design briefs/design objectives, space planning and programming to achieve operational efficiencies. Collaborate with the DPM team in this effort to clearly explain design expectations to establish a department wide understanding of desired quality and deliverables.The Director of Interior Design will provide strategic recommendations to improve the inherent value of the asset through elevated interior architectural detailing and design, product quality, timely delivery, and being mindful of established budgets and schedules. These objectives should be seen as part of ongoing training for continued professional development.This position will ensure the design sophistication and aesthetic of the overall interior design to meet global standards and adhere to the brand requirements of the organization while driving the creative design process ultimately resulting in award winning projects.More specifically this role requires conceptual thinking, understanding of construction means and methods, detailed cost estimates and assessing potential scheduling constraints.Job ResponsibilitiesDrive luxury brand alignment including programme, budget, planning and interior design due-diligence initiatives. Providing mentorship to our key partners including internal stakeholders, MBS operations and DPM teams and third-party interior designers, architects, design and technical consultants.Encourage collaborative work sessions, both in-person and electronically, to foster positive team member relationships.Project evaluations and recommendations shall optimize the quality of the guest experience and overall financial performance of the property.Projects will encompass long-range CAPEX planning, acquisition due-diligence efforts, ‘property improvement planning’ development, property and project assessments, and site and desktop evaluations for conversions, renovations and potential new construction projects.Drive the evolution of the Operations CAPEX planning initiative and all respective CAPEX projects, adhere to ‘Design Excellence’ narratives, documentation and construction standards, specific design initiatives, and communication tools.Develop RFP’s, consultant contracts and manage contract resolution as necessary.Collaboratively evaluate and make recommendations for improvements to ‘Design Excellence’ effectiveness and efficiencies.Direct and guide a team of design managers to ensure the team and project are on track.Direct design teams and define team resources to ensure successful implementation of design excellence within an operating environment.Ensure stringent compliance to company policies and procedures and statutory requirements.Develop a strong culture of integrity, teamwork, passion, creativity, respect, and strong project delivery with Sourcing and Procurement to review and comment on design consultant scope and feePartner with DPM colleagues including project management, architecture, MEP, AV, construction management, programming, commercial and contracts to delivery successful projects.Work closely wit our Sourcing and Procurement team to successfully deliver FF&E and artwork.Document Review / Process & Project Management:Independently review and assess project documents. Where needed contribute space planning and interior architectural detailing to be included in design presentations and documents. Review FF&E, Artwork and OS&E selections. Review GC drawings and/or specification submittals for compliance with local codes/IB standards and Sands compliance standards.Compose written and visual recommendations and approval documents for internal and external circulation. Provide leadership to the consultants on the process of online project registration, design submittals (both electronic and physical), collaborative workshops and relationship building, issuance of formal design approval letters, etc. In select cases, with business units - hold responsibility for managing and delivering CAPEX renovation projects.Support the construction delivery team in all aspects related to design, including ensuring acceptable quality deliverables by the consultants and contractors in all stages of the project.Work closely with the DPM commercial team on the management of the consultants contracts, payments, and other commercial requirements.JOB REQUIREMENTS:Education4-year degree from an accredited interior design or architectural programExperience15 years+ global experience with proven track record in handling luxury resort projects or large-scale mixed-use developments at major consultancy firms and developer.Experience and knowledge of all aspects of Integrated Resort design, including space planning, interior design, FF&E, materials;Extensive experience implementing design processes, including driving current consultants’ practices, scope and abilities;Experience with managing teams and complex projects, including design team organizational structures and resourcesExperience with broad, complex teams delivering projects for large-scale commercial buildingsExperience in large-scale Integrated Resorts and/or Regulated Casino Environments is preferred, but not criticalCompetenciesAbility to successfully communicate in both oral and written forms and graphically by developing diagrams and documenting reviews (e.g. CAD, loose hand sketches, etc.).Excellent leadership capabilities, charisma, and communication skills to influence, inspire, and motivate key stakeholders and employees around a single vision.Ability to work collaboratively and communicate with senior management team with poise and discipline, while being a self-starter.Effectively manage conflict resolutions and handle all disputes in a swift and efficient mannerStrong project management, organizational, communication and collaborative skills, including the ability to handle details through to completion, ensure project objectives are met and projects are successfully delivered on par with ‘Design Excellence’.Strong financial acumen and bottom-line orientation with strong analytical skills.Ability to work in a fast-paced, and changeable environment under pressure while meeting deadlines.Use of Microsoft Office, AutoCad, Revit, Sketch Up, Adobe Design Solutions, InDesign.You agree that it is a condition of employment that you adhere to and abide by all rules, regulations, policies and procedures including without limitation the rules of conduct of the Company.It is the Company’s preference to hire individuals who are fully vaccinated.
